ACADEMIC DIVISIONS

Stage II

COURSE SYLLABUS:  Each course has a syllabus that outlines course expectations and lists due dates for tests and other assignments.  Obtain a syllabus for videotape, print, and CD-Rom courses from the College bookstore before the quarter begins.  The syllabus for online courses is contained within each course and is available on the first day of the quarter.

TESTING: Testing for each Distance Learning course varies.  Some courses do not require on-campus testing, but most do.  Students who live beyond a 60-mile radius of the campus may need to arrange to have tests proctored.  Consult the Test Method Listing  to determine if you will need a proctor form for your testing.

ONLINE COURSE ACCESS:  Online courses will be available the first day of the term and students should be prepared to begin at that time.  Instructions for accessing online courses will be available through your student  my.sinclair email account.  Log onto the Sinclair web site www.sinclair.edu and click on my.sinclair (top left).  Click on Login Instructions (left-hand column).  After you login, your classes will appear in the My Courses box.  Click on the course title.  For assistance, contact the Help Desk at 937-512-4357 (toll-free 1-866-781-4357).

TIMELINES:     Students are expected to begin their classes on the first day of the term and complete them by the end of the term.  Check the current college quarterly calendar to determine term dates.

WITHDRAWAL:    Be aware of withdrawal deadlines.    Students can withdraw from one or more courses online, by phone, or in-person.  To withdraw:

  • Online:  Go to the Sinclair web site www.sinclair.edu and click on my.Sinclair.  If you have technical questions, contact the Helpdesk at 937-512-4357 (toll free 1-866-781-4357).
  • By phone:  Call telephone registration at 937-512-5454 (toll-free 1-866-512-5454). You must know the 7-digit course synonym number and your PIN number (4-digit number of the month/day of birth).  Consult the current class schedule or see the Sinclair Bulletin for this information.
  • In person:  Visit the Registration Office, second floor of Building 10, West Fourth Street, Dayton, Ohio.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:  If you are a financial aid recipient, it is crucial that you establish attendance in each class you are registered for every quarter.  Essentially, this involves attending classes on a regular basis.  If you decide to withdraw from a class with a “W” you are still responsible to establish attendance in all classes at least beyond the 100% refund period.

For distance learning courses, attendance is monitored by tests taken or assignments submitted.  An important aspect to remember about distance learning courses is:  should you decide to drop with a “W” and a test or assignment has not been submitted, you have not established attendance in that class.  In other words, you must demonstrate some work was done before you withdraw.

Should a situation arise where you do not establish attendance, your financial aid will be reduced down to the amount of credit hours you actually attend.  For example, if you register for 12 credits at the beginning of the quarter and the Office of Financial Aid receives attendance information from one instructor stating you never attended a 3-credit-hour course, your financial aid will be reduced down to ¾ enrollment.  This could leave you in an owing situation with the school.
