On November 16, 2007, Sinclair Community College will be one of eighteen sites hosting a state-wide "Girls in IT" conference. Under the theme of "We Are IT," Ohio colleges and universities, in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Education, will work together to encourage girls' participation in IT and technology related courses and careers.
This one-day event will provide a broad-based introduction to the application of information technology to the world of work through fun and interactive activities.
Our event will target 9th and 10th grade girls who will participate in hands-on computer activities, spend time with IT professional women, and meet other girls interested in learning more about technology and IT careers. They will walk away with fantastic door prizes and perhaps win a computer!
This is the second year we've hosted this important event and we are asking for your help!
Here’s how:

First, spread the word to any friends, colleagues, businesses who might be interested in participating.

Volunteer to be a “lunch buddy’ - that is to join a group of 5 or 6 girls and informally talk with them over lunch offering encouragement and giving them some insight into what you do.

(All lunch buddies are women).

Facilitate a breakout session. The sessions are 40 minutes each (each session will be offered twice). We want interactive, hands-on activities that highlight the use of information technology in different careers.

Donate! We are looking for corporate sponsors and donations for major door prizes (last year we gave away a laptop, printer, digital cameras, iPods, software and much more!).

We also want give-aways (could be for each participant – 200 expected – a great way for your company logo to get out there!) or fewer to use as door prizes. Finally we’ll accept good old-fashioned cash donations to purchase door prizes.
