What is the Travel & Tourism program at Sinclair?
The Travel & Tourism program is devoted to the study of the basic theory of travel, and developing the skills of a travel professional. Students will complete practical exercises which simulate real work experience. In addition, students will gain an understanding of: Cruises, selling vacations at sea Tours—escorted, hosted, and independent Surface transportation Managing a travel agency Marketing for the travel industry Management of travel sales personnel Accommodations and car rentals Development of a travel professional Travel salesmanship Air tariffs, fare construction, and airline documentation World place geography Domestic and international air reservations What’s more, students will gain hands-on, live airline reservations computer training, focusing on: Airline computer fundamentals Building reservation records Airline seat availability Hotel and car rental bookings Fare quotations and pricing Client preference profiles Auxiliary service

What are the features of the Sinclair program?
On line Airline Computer Classroom , featuring 17 Sabre travel reservation terminals, to provide actual hands-on experience. The Travel Institute text is incorporated into the program. The support of Carlson Wagonlit Travel in providing Sinclair with airline Computers and travel industry expertise. Experienced instructors. The faculty members are qualified professionals in the travel industry. The program coordinator has been in the industry since 1969, and is certified by The Travel Institute. Advisory Committee is comprised of well-respected travel industry professionals. Internship program provides students an opportunity to gain on-the-job experience and knowledge prior to graduation.

What are the characteristics of a successful travel professional?
Students should project a professional business image, be people-oriented and patient, detail-oriented, accurate, dales minded, versatile, able to deal with constant change, open-minded, knowledgeable in geography, and have a desire to travel and read about destinations.

The travel and tourism industry is fast-paced—and fast-growing. Students can find careers as a travel agent, car rental desk agent, tour guide for motorcoach, airline or cruise ship, or as a convention and visitor bureau manager, to name some of the opportunities available.
