Fire Science Technology (FST)

The Fire Science Technology (FST) program provides an understanding of all aspects of fire science including fire protection, prevention, and investigation. The FST program is also appropriate for career firefighters, fire protection system designers, fire prevention code enforcement personnel, and safety professionals who want to enhance their job skills as well as increase their opportunities for promotion.

Sinclair is chartered by the State of Ohio to provide certified firefighter and rescue training.   Courses are available in the Professional Firefighter Certification Short Term Certificate that trains students to become certified Level I and Level II firefighters, and the Rescue Technician Short Term Certificate that provides training for all emergency responders.

Sinclair Community College is an affiliate member of the Miami Valley FIRE/EMS Alliance. This Alliance is a Council of Governments formed from a consortium of 24 Fire Departments that provide fire and emergency medical services to 34 political jurisdictions in Clark, Greene, Montgomery, and Warren Counties of Ohio. The focus of the Alliance is on maximizing resource utilization, minimizing costs, and insuring a high level of service without the loss of local autonomy.

Students can gain valuable hands-on experience through the school's co-op program while achieving college credit for practical work experience.

What are the objectives of the Fire Science Technology program at Sinclair?

This program provides a full range of courses which address fire and safety issues. The program prepares students for careers in fire protection, inspection, arson investigation, emergency response, and fire administration. Courses include fire protection systems, fire investigation, fire codes, safety management, building construction, hazardous materials and administrative issues. Real-world experience is gained through internship with a fire department. Students may also receive certification in Fire Science Technology and Fire Administration.

What are the objectives of the Fire Science Technology's Administration option program at Sinclair? 

The Fire Science Technology's Administration option program develops an understanding of the principles of managing a fire protection organization, applies the principles of fire protection in solving community safety problems, understands the administrative workings of a fire department including budget preparation, resource allocation, long range planning, and fiscal projections.
