How much does the Basic Police Academy cost?
The fees are may be subject to change:
Montgomery County Resident: $2,600.00
Out of County Residents: $3,300.00
The cost of the academy is in two payments. Each payment is due in the beginning of each quarter that the student attends. Students now have the option of monthly payments through FACTS.
Does financial aid cover the cost of the academy?
Yes, financial aid may be applied toward academy costs, just as with any other college courses. For more information about financial aid, contact the Sinclair Financial Aid Scholorship Office:

What kind of certification do I receive from the Basic Police Academy?
Successful completion of the program enables the student to take the state commissioning exam for certification as a Law Enforcement Officer.
What are the times of the Basic Police Academy?
Day Academy: M-F 8:00 am - 2:30 pm, plus some Saturdays from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, and some Sundays.
Night Academy: M-F 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm, most Saturdays from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, and some Sundays
What are the steps in applying for the Basic Police Academy?
1. Applying to Sinclair Community College
2. Take Placement Testing through the College
3. Apply for Financial Aid if needed
4. Complete the Basic Academy Application Packet
* Applicant Background Information Sheet
* Student Health Data Form
* Medical Examination Form
5. Physical Assessment (Push-ups, Sit-ups, and 1.5 mile run)
6. Oral Interview
What are the prerequisites in entering the Basic Police Academy?
* Be at least 21 years of age by the date his/her Basic Police Academy class will graduate
* Have a valid Ohio driver's license
* Have no felony convictions
* Have no conviction for any offenses stemming from a domestic violence charge
* United States citizen
What kind of physical shape must I be in before entering the Basic Police Academy?
All cadets must pass the state physical fitness standards before becoming certified through the state. Potential cadets should contact the Training Academy for more details. Sinclair does require a minimum fitness level based on age and gender.
Do I receive college credit for attending the Basic Police Academy?
Sinclair Community College currently awards credit hours for completion of the Basic Police Academy. These credits apply toward the hours required to earn the associate's degree in law enforcement. The Criminal Justice Department academic advisor can assist students with credit transfer requests; contact Ms. Madelyn Buran at (937) 512-2702, Room 9301, madelyn.buran@sinclair.edu The number of awarded credit hours may change as the curriculum is updated and/or expanded.
