Ways to Improve Poor Grades

Repeat Rule Policy (Courses taken more than one time)

  • Most recent grade and credit hours are used in calculating the grade point average (GPA).   Exception: Courses that are shown as “repeatable” (R) in the course description area of the Sinclair catalog are counted each time they are taken.
  • Second grade is used in calculating the GPA in place of the original grade.  Any future repeat of the same course causes the grade to be “averaged”.  Exception: All “W,” N,” and “X” grades are excluded.
  • All grades remain on the transcript even if not counted in the cumulative GPA.
  • Students should check with their funding source to determine rules for courses taken more than once.

Fresh Start Policy

  • Returning to Sinclair after an absence of at least three (3) calendar years.
  • Assessment for reading, language usage, and numerical skills.
  • Successful completion of at least six (6) credit hours of non DEV coursework upon reenrollment (grades of “P,” “S,” “C,” or better are acceptable).
  • Submission of completed Fresh Start Petition to the Academic Advising Center (Building 11-Room 11-346).
