In accordance with Chapter 149 of the Ohio Revised Code, Sinclair Community College, Dayton, Ohio, has adopted the following policy for the retention and disposal of records of the College: Records as defined in section 149.011 of the Ohio Revised Code may only be retained and destroyed as indicated on a Records Retention Schedule approved by the College Records Manager, and subject to established Records Management procedures.
The Ohio Revised Code defines "Records" as any document, device, or item, regardless of physical form or characteristic, created or received by or coming under the jurisdiction of any …office… which serves to document the organization, functions, policies, decisions, procedures, operations, or other activities of the office.
There are two types of Records Retention Schedules in use at Sinclair. One is the General Schedule, which gives information on College Policy regarding everyday business records. The other is the Departmental Retention Schedule, which publishes our legal obligations concerning the business records of individual departments and is created and distributed by the Records Manager only. They result from a consultation between the Records Manager and a representative(s) of the office the Retention Schedule is created for.
