 Please disregard the Crime Alert that was issued on March 29, 2011. A complete investigation has been concluded by the Dayton Police Department and it has been determined that a crime did not occur.

 

March 29, 2011

2:30 p.m.

 Attention: Students/Faculty/Staff

 On March 29 at 1:20 p.m.., a white male, approximately in his late 40’s, short salt and pepper hair and a goatee, wearing a sports jacket and worn blue jeans grabbed the arm of a Sinclair student on the sidewalk in front of Building 7. The student resisted and the suspect left the area driving an older black pick-up truck with rust over the fender wells and a gold pinstripe along the side of the vehicle. The victim was not injured in incident.  Sinclair Police are actively looking for the suspect.

A network of emergency blue light intercoms are located outside throughout campus and are identified by a blue light atop a pole that houses the intercom. These intercoms have been placed throughout the campus and parking lots. In addition to the emergency intercoms, there are a number of closed-circuit television surveillance cameras, which assist in monitoring parking lots and other selected areas on campus.

 
 
 
February 26, 2010

Attention: Students/Faculty/Staff
 
On February 26, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.., a black male, approximately in his late teens or early 20’s, brown eyes, clean shaven, and wearing a tan Timberline jacket and boots, attempted to solicit sex from a Sinclair student in the lower level of Building 2.  The student resisted and the suspect left the area in an unknown direction. A similar incident involving the same victim occurred on November 13, 2009 in the lower level of Building 4 with the same suspect. The victim was not injured in either incident.  Sinclair Police are actively looking for the suspect.

January 21, 2010

On January 20 at 8:30 p.m., a female suspect armed with a box cutter attempted to rob a Sinclair student exiting the women’s restroom on the third floor of Building 11.  The suspect and a female accomplice were arrested a few minutes later by Sinclair Police.  No one was injured.

December 5, 2008

Attention: Students/Faculty/Staff
 
Sinclair Police officers are in the process of investigating a burglary of a campus office and the attempted purse grabbing of a Sinclair Community College employee, by two male non-student individuals.
 
On today’s date, the suspects managed to obtain keys to various campus offices and entered an office, removing property.  Later, the suspects attempted to take the purse of an employee, but were unsuccessful, due to the employee carrying the purse safely and securely.
 
Sinclair Police officers were able to apprehend one of the suspects and to recover all of the property taken including the Sinclair keys.  The second suspect remains at large while officers continue to follow investigative leads.  The second suspect is described as follows:
A black male, 15-17 years of age, 5’9”, 175 pounds.  He was wearing all black clothing consisting of a black puffy hooded jacket with brown fur trim, a black skull cap and black jeans.  He was last seen eastbound on W. Third from St. Mary’s.

January 23, 2007
 
Attention: Students/Faculty/Staff
 
A student reported that on January 23, 2007 at 9:00 a.m., he was approached by a black male on the sidewalk directly in front of the Salvation Army building located on Wilkinson and West 5th Street and demanded money. The student stated that the man did not show a weapon but did threaten him with physical harm. The student gave the subject money and then ran north on Wilkinson Street toward West 4th street. The student did not report the crime until 1:00 p.m. to the Dayton Police Department.
 
The suspect was described as: a black male, early 30’s, 6’0 tall and about 190lbs. He is missing several teeth and was last seen wearing a black wind breaker jacket, blue jeans, a white knit hat with the name “Indianapolis Colts” in blue letters.

October 24, 2007
 
Attention: Students/Faculty/Staff
 
On October 23, 2007 between 3:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., a Sinclair employee reported that her purse was taken from her office in Building 14. The purse was located underneath her desk. The employee stated that a white female entered her office and asked to look at a phone book. The employee left the area for a few minutes and upon her returned found that the female and the purse were missing. Later that evening, the employee discovered that her vehicle that was parked in Lot D had been stolen.
 
The suspect was described as: a white female in her 60’s, gray hair, stocky build, wearing a gray sweater.
 
In recent days, the campus has experienced an increase in theft of unattended property as well as from vehicles parked in Sinclair lots and on city streets. Everyone is reminded to keep their valuables with them when using the library, food outlets or computers. Cell phones and car keys have been highly targeted by thieves.
 
Employees are reminded to secure their property in their offices and keep valuables out of sight. It is also a good practice to keep offices secured when leaving even if it is just for “a minute” and not allow any unauthorized people to remain in your office unaccompanied.
