USIP is an independent, nonpartisan, national institute established and funded by Congress.  Its goals are to help prevent and resolve violent international conflicts, promote post-conflict stability and democratic transformations, and increase peace building capacity, tools, and intellectual captial worldwide.

David J. Smith is a senior program officer in USIP's education program, where he focuses on secondary, college, and university education in conflict resolution and peace studies.  He has nearly 20 years of teaching experience in a variety of educational settings, including 13 years as an associate professor at Hartford Community College where he taught legal studies, conflict resolution and peace studies.  Smith's periodical writings include Teaching Conflict Resoulution in Estonia, New Europe Old Europe, Goodbye Russia Hello Europe, and The Community College in Peace and War.

This event is free and open to the public.
