Who can subscribe/use the service?
Sinclair faculty, staff and students can subscribe to the Nixle Emergency Notification service.

If I sign up for alerts for two locations, will I receive two text messages if the entire college closes?
No, you will only receive one text if all locations close regardless of how many lists you subscribe to.

Is there a cost to receive alerts?
The alert system will send you text messages. Depending on your plan, normal text and data rates may apply. Check your plan details to see if you are charged for text messages.

Does it matter who my cell phone provider/carrier is?
The following providers support the alert system: AT&T; Sprint/Nextel; Verizon Wireless; U.S. Cellular; T-Mobile; Cellular One Dobson; Cincinnati Bell; Alltel; Virgin Mobile USA; Cellular South; Unicel; Centennial; nTelos; MetroPCS; Cricket; Tracphone; Boost; Bluegrass; Cellcom

I am a Sprint user and get a “Message Failed” response when I register using the 888777 shortcode. Why is that?
Sprint often disables access to all short codes (5 and 6 digit phone numbers) from their handsets. If you are a Sprint customer, and you receive a message such as “Message Failed. Shortcode may have expired or shortcode texting may be disabled,” you may need to contact Sprint to enable your phone to send and receive messages from short codes. Nixle uses the 888777 short code to send you timely messages. Nixle does not charge for this service, but carrier message and data rates may apply. You may contact Sprint by dialing *2 on your cell phone or visiting www.sprint.com.

I am a T-Mobile user and get a “Access denied” response when I register using the 888777 shortcode. Why is that?
T-Mobile often disables access to all short codes (5 and 6 digit phone numbers) from their handsets. If you are a T-Mobile customer, and you receive a message such as “Message Failed. What if my cell phone number changes?
You will need to update your number by unsubscribing your old number and adding your new number.

Will my sign-up information be shared with third parties?
inclair does not have access to any of the phone numbers subscribed to the alerts. The vendor used for this service, Nixle, LLC, states that they never share information with third parties. Their privacy policy can be found at http://www.nixle.com/privacypolicy.html.

Will I receive other kinds of messages from Sinclair through the Alert system?
No, Sinclair will only send information regarding closings or other kinds of campus emergencies using this system. Nixle may send service specific messaging regarding your subscription.

How I change my preferences or unsubscribe from Sinclair alerts?
Visit www.nixle.com and login to modify your account preferences. To unsubscribe from text alerts only, text STOP to 888777 for instructions.
